5 Simple Ways to Instantly Transform Your Wardrobe and Your Life

I don’t know about you, but I am absolutely determined to have a great 2024. If it’s not great, at least it won’t be terrible, and thanks to the November election, I know that the second option is very real. As a female personal stylist, I’ve seen firsthand the impact a fresh perspective can have on a client. For me, a space that is clutter-free and filled with only beautiful and functional items has had an extraordinary impact on my life. Truly. I bet you feel that way too.

I also know that a new year comes with new motivation and new expectations. We want to do it all: change our eating habits, exercise more, volunteer, etc. Usually by week two we realize we’re being overly ambitious. With that in mind, this post is not how to do an exhaustive closet edit. Trust me, that’s what I’m here for! Instead, we’re focusing on five simple steps that will have a disproportionate impact on your life. Less effort, more reward. Getting Started!

5 Simple Ways to Immediately Transform Your Wardrobe and Your Life
Embrace your current situation and size and ask those closest to you to do the same.
How many times have we lost 10 pounds in weight in our lives? After styling hundreds of women, I’d say a very high percentage of them. Your weight loss goals are your own and I’m not going to guide you on that. What I will do is share with you that having only clothes that fit your closet (which also means drawers you can easily reach!) The extraordinary impact. If you have clothes that you may never wear again, it’s time to donate them or share them with people you love and who will appreciate them. For those items that you love and that may fit in the future, they go into storage bins elsewhere in your home. Make sure you have a “too small” bin and a “too big” garbage can and put them in different places. If, like me, your weight fluctuates between sizes, try having a garbage can for each size so that when you’re actually a size 10, you’re only a size 10.

Turn your closet into a boutique just for you.
If you’re lying in bed staring at a stuffed closet that no longer serves you, it’s time to re-market the merchandise. Your closet is your personal Nordstrom. everything should be organized by item type and then by color.Your clothes should have room to breathe (not be pushed together).Clothes you want to wear more of should be front and center, and clothes you don’t want to wear should be harder to get to.(I see you, “casual wear.”)Love those heels, but rarely wear them?Try putting them on a shelf to make your closet feel prettier and more unique.Stuff your handbag with thin paper to show them off, too.Worried about space?Indeed. Make sure you only have pieces in your closet that are currently applicable. Specifically, are you looking for seasonally appropriate pieces that convey your authentic personal style, complement your figure and are appropriate for current wear? That’s the goal. A lighter elevator that simply eliminates items that clearly aren’t working out and categorizes and stores separately the items you don’t need on a daily basis. For example: skiing, working out, camping, loungewear, formal wear and gardening can all be kept within easy reach that’s not part of your beautiful boutique.

Organize Your Makeup, Skin Care and Hair Care Products
Again, you don’t need to spend an hour or more digging deep into your medicine cabinet. Instead, do a 10-minute run-through. What’s almost empty? Do they need replacing or are no longer useful? Which products are outdated? Feeling ambitious? Pick up some cute containers and organize the leftovers to make your cabinets as appealing as your closet.

Love your bedroom again (or for the first time).
Yes, you deal with your closet every day. Time together should feel great. It should be empowering, inspiring, and affirming. After all, you know who you are and your clothes exude that confidence. Your boutique is located in or adjacent to your bedroom, and if your space is overwhelming, frustrating, and filled with “to-do” list items, it won’t help you get to your happy place. Spend 15 minutes organizing your bedroom. Delete the books you don’t read and probably won’t read anytime soon. Put on your favorite sheets and bedding. Remove furniture that you don’t use and will only make your space feel more cramped. Or, admit that you’re someone who doesn’t put your clothes away every night and designate a place for them that isn’t front and center.

It’s time to eliminate noise from your space.

By shedding clothes, toiletries and clutter that don’t fit you, you’ve taken things to the next level. Now, what’s left? Will 10 minutes with your shoes find you no longer need several pairs (or more) of shoes? What about your jewelry? When was the last time you checked your handbag or …… checkroom? Set a time frame for this activity so it doesn’t take over your life. If you’d like, try 10 or 15 minutes per day for each step. Or just stop in the bedroom. It’s all about how good you feel right now.

Restock!
You may have found some key parts you need throughout the process. Make a plan to get those so you don’t get bogged down with old options disappearing. While you’re at it, I recommend a full complement of bras and undergarments. Regardless of your shape or shoulder weight, the beautiful way you feel when you put on that first layer can have a profound effect on your confidence. It’s true. Check your bras, underwear, camisoles, petticoats, shapewear, socks, anything you can think of. Eliminate the noise and launch a coherent new collection. I like to stick to black and nude color options. But you’ll do what works best for you.
