Moisturizer Tips to Optimize Your Skin Care Routine
Whether you’re serious about your skincare routine or you’re up and out the door in a matter of minutes, you probably realize the importance of hydrating your skin. Skincare fanatics know the long-term benefits, while others may just want to avoid dryness and discomfort. No matter where you are in your skincare journey, we share our top moisturizing tips, learn what to use to nourish your skin, and teach you how to moisturize in the most effective way possible.
For moisturized skin
Moisturizers are all about locking in moisture. There are two benefits to applying moisturizer when your skin is still wet: first, hydrated skin has greater penetration, allowing moisturizing ingredients to be better absorbed into the skin. Second, moisturizers lock the moisture in the skin. This maximizes its effectiveness. Use this technique on your face and body for younger looking skin.
Don’t forget your chin, neck and lower neck triangle
The skin on your neck and the front of your neck is more fragile than the rest of your body, similar to the skin on your face. This makes these areas particularly susceptible to sunburn, irritation and signs of premature aging. For this reason, it’s important to moisturize these areas as part of your morning and evening routine. You can use a face or body moisturizer to do this, but we recommend using a formula with anti-aging properties for the best long-term results.
Try a hydrating mask
Maybe you’ve been working late or going through a busy socializing season that has caused you to drink more than usual. Whatever the reason, dehydration can wreak havoc on your skin. One of the easiest dry skin tips is to treat your skin to a thirst-quenching mask whenever your skin feels like it needs a lot of moisturizing. Using a multitasking formula, such as the At-Home Vacation Moisturizing Mask, you can customize the level of hydration provided to your skin. For daily use, simply apply twice a day as usual. When you wake up to dry or uncomfortable skin, support it with a 10-minute moisturizing mask. When you have a big event coming up, you can use it as an overnight treatment.
Tap it
Once you’ve chosen the right moisturizer for your skin, there are many ways to moisturize your face, but we recommend patting it on. Instead of applying a thick moisturizer, try applying it to clean fingers and then gently but firmly pressing it into the skin, starting from the center of your face and moving outward. Not only will this promote deeper absorption as you physically press the product in, but it also provides a slight lymphatic drainage that helps to minimize excessive puffiness and water retention.
Mix with foundation
For a natural, vegan look, combine a few drops of your moisturizer of choice with Nude Illusion Foundation. This will provide a sheer, skin-like finish and can be used as a DIY tinted moisturizer. To mix foundation with moisturizer, add some moisturizer to the back of your hand along with your foundation and swirl it together with clean fingers or the back of a makeup brush. Next, apply the mixture to your skin and blend with a brush or sponge to create a fresh, barely-there look.
Exfoliation to increase absorption
Dead skin cells and sebum build up on the skin, creating a rough barrier that traps dirt and locks in moisture. For the best results from your moisturizer, we recommend exfoliating your skin once or twice a week with a chemical exfoliant such as AHA or BHA.
Choose a formula with moisturizing properties
Moisturizing and hydrating are often used interchangeably in skin care, but there is a distinct difference between the two. Moisturizing ingredients lubricate the skin to prevent water loss, while hydrating ingredients attract water and bind it to the skin. For best results, we recommend using a moisturizer that contains both. Dive In™ Moisturizer is formulated with select humectants, including Pentavitin and Sodium Hyaluronate, to effectively bind water to the skin for long-lasting hydration. It also contains a variety of sealers and emollients such as Squalane, Glycerin and Niacinamide that form a moisture barrier to lock in moisture and prevent water loss.13 A powerful combination of antioxidant-rich fruit extracts helps protect the skin from damaging free radicals that cause premature aging.
Seasonal
Regardless of your skin type, skin typically produces more oil during hot, humid months and less oil during cold, dry months. As a result, you may need to change your moisturizer seasonally. During the spring and summer months, a lighter formula will leave your skin feeling refreshed and comfortable, while in the fall and winter months, a richer formula will provide your skin with the nutrients it needs while replacing lost oils and moisture.
Add Self-Tanning Drops
Want a natural looking tan without the orange finger and fake tan odor? Self-tanning drops provide a customizable tan, saving you the extra step of awkwardly waiting in the bathroom for the product to dry and then staining your sheets. Add a few drops to your moisturizing skincare routine for a gradual and easy tan: 1-2 drops for a soft glow, 3-4 drops for a just-back-from-the-Bahamas look.
