Fashion Habits for Creating Great Style
Who are your fashion icons? I have a lot of women whose style I admire, and while they may make themselves look effortless, I’ve found that usually looking stylish doesn’t have to be difficult – as long as you have a few key things in place. If you get into the habit of doing something on a regular basis, then you’ll walk out of the house instantly glowing and refreshed.
Plan outfits
I bet if you really like the way someone looks, it’s because everything is smooth and cohesive. The shoes go with the outfit, the bag is consistent with the color palette …… It all fits. And it’s not hard to do, it just takes a little effort to do some outfit planning. If you stop and prepare a few outfits ahead of time, whether it’s the night before or a weekly styling session, you’ll take the rush to buy clothes out of the equation, which is exactly when clothes tend to go wrong.
Make a rigorous edit
I think an outfit always has to have a separate element, but it also has to be thoughtfully edited so that everything works together. So always consider striking a balance and make sure that no elements are competing with each other, but rather complementing each other.
Add a special piece
When designing an outfit strive to incorporate one outstanding piece. It could be a pair of fabulous earrings, a beautiful bag or a striking top, but whatever it is, make sure it’s the kind of thing that will enhance the look.
Make sure everything is in good condition
One of the things that makes an outfit look bad is anything that looks a little worn or shabby. Get in the habit of checking your clothes for damage so that they can be repaired immediately or replaced if needed. Additionally, little things like pilling, discoloration, fading and even tiny stains can take away from the fashionable look of a garment, so make sure you address the issue or eliminate it from your closet.
Wearing the right underwear
The right undergarments are very important to the overall look. An ill-fitting bra strap under a camisole, or the wrong color underwear can make you look less polished. Invest in quality undergarments, from bras to petticoats and undershirts (including Spanx if you want a sleek look under certain outfits), and that you’ve met all the style requirements.
Strive for the right fit
Say goodbye to clothes that don’t fit. If they can be fixed, replace them immediately. If not, it’s time to donate them to charity so others can enjoy them. Still have those clothes you’ll save “someday”? It’s time to say goodbye to those and focus on what works for you now. After all, you should look stylish.
