How to pretend to look rested when you’ve been out all night
If you’re going to try to pretend you’ve gotten eight hours of sleep, what should be in your toolbox and why?
“The key to pretending you’ve had eight hours of sleep is to have a good hydrating product that instantly plumps and refreshes your skin; a great concealer to cover any redness on your skin and of course, dark circles; eye drops to refresh tired eyes, and for me, a great lipgloss/blush combo with a fresh, bright side that can add color and brighten your overall look.”
What’s the key to brightening a tired, dull complexion?
“A non-shimmery highlighter, concealer and a fresh/bright lipstick would be my go-to for brightening a tired complexion!
Highlighters (try the cream/liquid, non-metallic versions) can be used under foundation and/or above highlights (especially on the cheekbones) to catch and reflect light for a super fresh, glowing complexion.
Concealer is a must, better suited for redness around the nose, then apply lightly under the eyes for instant refreshment!
Finish with a bright, fresh lipstick such as peach, grey-rose or brick red/red on the cheeks and eyelids to really wake up the skin and restore color and freshness to a tired complexion.”
How do you effectively disguise tired eyes?
“Sometimes overcompensating for fatigue and wearing too much makeup around your eyes is actually worse! Avoid dark and heavy colors and consider fresh and light colors while steering clear of pink/red shades as these can make eyes look more tired.
Use eye drops to eliminate redness and restore freshness, use under-eye concealer to brighten up dark circles, and then use mascara to apply neutral tones to your eyelids and socket bones. No amount of eyeliner will do the job of pulling and contouring, but you shouldn’t overdo the makeup in that area either.”
How can I best conceal dark circles under my eyes?
“Dark circles really need two shades of concealer to really show off a celebrity, red carpet style, super fresh eye – a real treat!
Depending on the depth of the dark circles, apply the peach/yellow (orange for extreme dark circles) to the actual dark circle area first, then tap to blend to correct the color.
Then, use more skin tone shades on top, or even slightly lighter, which will brighten the area.
Once you’ve color corrected the dark circles, only then will your skin tone or lighter shade work on the area, otherwise it may turn gray if you don’t color correct it first.”
What are the key things to do to look fresher?
“It also actually requires more attention to your skin preparation!
When we’re tired, we’re quick to put on a little makeup, but skin prep can do it all for you ……. Hydration will leave your skin glowing and plump, and it’s important to massage your skincare products in fully to minimize puffiness and make your skin look fresher.
Are there any looks to avoid if you want to look more relaxed than you actually are?
“For me, it’s just heavy eye makeup. It definitely makes you look more tired than you actually are because it’s heavy on the eyes – especially big lashes and thick eyeliner!”
If you’re dealing with a hangover, what’s the quickest way to apply makeup to help you look fresh?
“As above. Eye drops, skincare, concealer, non-metallic highlighter, brightening lipstick and blush.”
